Is Youtube going to replace the television set???

In a not-so shocking revelation Youtube has announced that it enjoys more than a billion page views a day. That makes out for about 11,574 page views per second which means Youtube serves up about a million page views about every 90 seconds. Now that is a baffling number. Isn’t it incredible that a website with an infinite number of videos enjoys so much attention from a worldwide audience?
It is also disheartening that people spend so much time watching, sharing and uploading videos when they have no time for themselves. Majority of the time is being eaten up by their work and the little amount left is consumed (unfortunately) by incessant e-mails, text messages, Facebook updates, tweets and of course Youtube videos.
Youtube CEO and co-founder Chad Hurley wrote “This is great moment in our short history. Clip Culture is here to stay.” He agrees that it’s a trend to upload and share videos and indeed an important one in the internet infrastructure industry. There is no doubt about the popularity of the medium or the status it enjoys amongst a global audience, but the question remains: “Is Youtube going to replace the famed Television sets?”
There is something noteworthy in this whole discussion. It is also of importance that whether the numbers are widely exaggerated or they are actual numbers? There is no check mechanism in place to decide whether the claims made by Hurley are true to the core or not? This might be true and exact but we are not sure yet. Time will bear testimony to the fact and we will wait to see how it works.
